"Welcome! Doom is upon us, as The Ruin awakens! The protectorate, founded on Earth and responsible for overlooking the safety of the galaxy as a whole, died with its planet! There is nothing left to stop The Ruin. You avoided dying horribly on Earth, but that means little as The Ruin will not stop! It will continue and continue, until nothing is left! Sure, there's a way to stop The Ruin, but you? You don't stand a chance. It's best just to enjoy what little life you have left, as the death of the universe approaches. That's what I'm doing!"
The Earth is gone. The protectorate is no more. Maybe you're one of the few protectorate members that escaped on a ship, or you're just some villager that wants to get spacefaring. Either way, The Ruin is coming. You can try to stop it, or just run away. Stopping it is also an option, but good luck with that. Don't ask why, but fill out this sheet.
What race are you?
-The Humans-Despite being a young race, humans are a highly advanced species that progressed quickly, both socially and technologically. Humans were the first of the major races to research and conduct space travel, however humanity's expansion into the stars was painfully slow. Due to other species' visiting Earth, Humans decided to create the Terrene Protectorate as a universal peacekeeping organization, but it is destroyed along with the planet by The Ruin.
Technologically, humans are the second most advanced civilization behind the Apex, possessing cloning technology and FTL drives. The humans are a race that are rather neutral in the eyes of other races, though they are typically Xenophobic thanks to the USCM's "Let no one in" policy. They and the Apex seem to be rivals, and they typically fear the Florans for being murderers and cannibals.
-The Apex-A highly advanced, militant collectivist and authoritarian regime of Apes. The Apex were once very similar looking to the Humans. However, the Apex society as a whole underwent a process known as the Vestigi-Evo Process (VEP) and devolved physically to apes but advanced intellectually. The Apex are ruled by a figure of extremely high authority who goes by the name of 'Big Ape'. The Apex have spread across the stars primarily by settling various research facilities on many planets, but most, if not all, of the research facilities are abandoned but a few highly-paranoid guards and in some cases victims of the feared 'Ape Flu' are to be found. Steer clear of infected Apes under any circumstances, and it is highly recommended than none other than any MiniKnog Officials enter the facilities, or risk the death penalty.
The Apex are at the cutting edge of modern technology, with one of the main focuses of their society being the pursuit of greater technological advances.
While the miniknog have positive relations with the florans and avians, the apex people in general seem to be unbiased.
"Big Ape" may have used the USCM prisons as a source of free scientific experiments, or even used the prisons as concentration camps. As posters with him on them can sometimes be found around the prison stating "There is no need to be upset". This may also explain why the prisons have been abandoned and no guards are to be found anywhere, if the guards were not human, then maybe they could have been apex. The "Ape Flu" may have broken out one these prisons, possibly originating as a human virus.
This may be explained with a historical analogy - the Pilgrims and native Americans for example. The Pilgrims had carried smallpox overseas and infected the native tribes, leading to massive outbreaks. The same could have happened when humans came in contact with the Apex. A human who carried a simple desease (such as the flu) could have proved deadly to the Apex. This could explain why the "Research" Labs are abandoned by the Apex as well.
-The Avians-A society of bird people, Avians are a highly religious race who worship their deified progenitor Kluex. Thousands of years prior, a race of advanced beings, called the Sunborn, took pity on the dying vestiges of the underdeveloped Avian population, took several members and gifted them with advanced knowledge. Among those chosen was an Avian named Kluex who went forward to create the mighty civilization that survives to this day. Avians on the beginning of their existence had wings providing them with ability to fly, but when Avians went to mortal world, Kluex decided to take their wings as a punishment (as Avians believe). Also It is known that Avians make bloody sacrifices of beaten (not dead yet) enemies. Somehow this tradition isn't accepted by all among Avians. Those who refuse to do such a things are called "Grounded". They are scattered across universe. They also became sworn enemies of Kluex. Basic difference that an adventurer may notice when he/she walks into such a city are blue banners (which are supposed to bring some colours to citizens lifes), no temple in the village and red banners with a moon as a symbol of freedom (it's understood as a freedom symbol only to Grounded, not like religious Avians which believe that Sun is a way to Aether).
The Avians use a combination of rudimentary tools and their more modern technology to create fearsome weapons and equipment, however their progress is all owed to the unknown alien race. The Avians like the Glitch and humans. The Glitch due to an alliance after first contact, humans seem to have close friendships with avians due to items such as human sarcophagi, which show a degree of respect for their race.
-The Florans-A young race of sentient humanoid plants that are surprisingly highly aggressive and cannibalistic in nature, the Floran are masters of salvaging captured technology and use that ability to expand and thrive. They also have a tendency to slur words. They are considered by many of the other major races to be a threat to the galaxy, more so by the Avians who had unintentionally assisted the Florans in escaping their homeworld. The Florans will slur their S's, and speak rather primitively.
Floran technology is primitive and basic. All of their advanced technology is stolen and salvaged from other races, usually after they had eaten the crew. The Florans are absolutely facinated and in love with the Glitch, mostly because they are the only race the Florans cannot eat. They absolutely hate the Hyotl and their pacifist ways, along with the fact that there were several wars involving the two.
-The Glitch-The Glitch are a race of robots, the remnants of an experiment of a long forgotten alien race. All other robotic civilizations eventually destroyed themselves, whereas the Glitch became inadvertently stuck in the medieval era of civilization. They are entirely unaware of their origins and act as any other sentient being would in the medieval time period. However, some of the Glitch will experience a glitch when created that removes the error that blocks their higher knowledge. These Glitch are often hunted down and executed by their kind for being insane.
The Glitch speak robotically, and always declare the intent of their speech. For example, if they are being sarcastic, they will say, "Sarcastic. I am sure you will not cause any trouble." If they are inquiring about something, they will declare that they are inquiring.
The overwhelming majority of Glitch society remains stuck at a medieval level of technology, using swords, bows and arrows. However, the few Glitch that escaped from their homeworld and moved to the stars possess highly advanced technology. The Glitch vary from equally good relations with the Florans to disgust at their cannibalistic ways. However, with missionaries such as Greenfinger leading the way to an alliance between the two, relations are typically good. They are also friendly with the Avians for the same reason the Avians like them.
-The Hylotl-The Hylotl are a proud amphibian race. They pursue beauty, perfection, and culture and seek to spread these ideals to other races. They are herbivores and generally peaceful towards other living beings. Their [currently unnamed] homeworld has been invaded by Florans due to the war between the both races.
Some Hylotl have taken condescending attitudes towards other races' cultures. This has led to a general dislike of Hylotl culture and attitudes amongst other races. A long and violent conflict has been waged between the Hylotl and the Floran, which had been caused by the very different culture of the races. Members of both races display grudges against each other. The Hyotl like all the other races except florans, being missionaries who want to uplift the "lesser races". Other races tend to see the Hylotl culture as a snobbish and stuck-up one, however.
Despite being peaceful, it is known the Hylotl have warships, although they prefer to resolve conflicts with diplomacy. Technology level of the Hylotl is not clear. They are capable of interstellar travel and building underwater cities. It is presumed they are tied or right after humans in terms of technology.
-The Novakids-The Novakid are a civilization of, as one human astronomer inelegantly put it, "interstellar gas-bag people". They evolved from the remnants of a dying star. All information on Novakid history has been lost to time as the Novakid, have short attention spans which severely restrict their technological advances and historical records. Most new technology invented by the Novakid is forgotten within two to three generations.
Due to the Novakid's short attention span and reluctance to record anything of significance, Novakid technology level changes very often, going from primitive swords and armor to space ships and guns back to swords in as little as six to eight generations. Novakids could have some major aspects in common with Sun/Stars, an example being that the color of their " gas " may show how long they have to live ( White, Blue, Yellow, Red, Purple ) this is all speculations though. At the moment they appear to take traits from old Western culture, judging from the clothes they wear and the weapons and gear they use.
-The Lamias-A human-like creature with the tail of a serpent, the Lamias are seemingly split between the general personalities they develop. Half are courtesan-like. Seducers and charmers all around. The other have are seemingly machine lovers, with a knack for anything technological. These tend to be more unpredictable in nature, outside of their interactions with machinery. Not much is known about where they originate from or how they were created, outside of speculation and short-lived scientific research to their creation, which simply came up with "They came from underground". Due to their lack of a home-planet or representative government and their neutral nature, they can be just about anywhere, assuming they can survive the weather. Due to this, their technology level depends on location and races they have interacted with. Common attire marketed for lamias are more loose-fitting, occasionally seductive-leaning clothing. However, it is not uncommon for a courtesan Lamia to be in the residence of someone of high-position, nor is it uncommon for the engineer-minded to be dressed conservatively or almost brutishly for work in harsh conditions. The Courtesans tend to stay away from combat, but they lean towards the more graceful weaponry if they must. The engineer lamias will use whatever they get their hands on, but many heavily favor heavy weaponry. Using their tails and coil formations, they can handle the power of large weaponry much better than most races.
Temperature is their one weak point. Being snake-like, they are more vulnerable to harsh weather than others. Again, they are a rather neutral race, and many are neutral towards the race as a whole. Particular Lamias, however, may find enemies in those that disagree with their promiscuity or lack thereof.
-The Rundown-If you start off as a protectorate member, you will start with the matter manipulator, a tool that never runs out of battery and has a variety of functions that can be unlocked. It starts off with the ability to mine almost anything in a small space, or emit a light ahead of you like a flashlight that allows you to scan anything and identify it, if it is identifiable. Does not work on individual people. You will also start with a two-handed sword in poor condition. Just good enough to get you through a fight, though just about anything is an improvement on this. You will also have a ship that you escaped on. It is damaged and unable to travel, but you will be able to fix it up in due time, before exploring the stars. Inside the ship you will find five canned foods, and twenty torches that can be materialized and dematerialized with your matter manipulator.
You will start out wearing protectorate gear. For the start, I highly recommend only one person is a protectorate member, to help the story progress. If you work together and agree you both escaped on the same ship, I'll allow it.
If you start off as a villager, you will have both a (tier 1) melee weapon and a (tier 1) ranged weapon of your choice, as well as a hunting bow for gathering food. The arrows are energy creations, so you do not have to worry about ammo, much like any other ranged weapon. You will also have five bandages, and a house with a bed to turn to. You will start out in a village of your race unless you have a backstory reason otherwise, and you will know the people there. You will also have extensive knowledge of the enemies that lie on the surface of the land, and any facilities or important details of the planet you start on.
If you start out as an outlaw, you will start in a small camp by yourself. You will have a (tier 1) melee weapon, (tier 1) ranged weapon, hunting bow, copper pickaxe and tier (1) armor of your race. You will also have five bundles of rope, and two healing salves. You will be wanted on your planet, but perhaps you may be of use to a protectorate member if they need a crew. You'll know the lay of the land, above and below, that is already readily accessible. You will also know the weaknesses of any enemies on the planet, and will have a better eye for weaknesses on future enemies. You'll have a sleeping bag and campfire in front of you. Maybe you can keep the sleeping bag with you, for the future.
If you have any other ideas on how you want your character to start off, message me about it and I'll see what I can do.
