Title needs work. Anyways, here is a new thread brought to you by Naru with the help and encouragement of ILD
There's just a month left until the galaxy's biggest competition, the Galaxy Games! Daring, dastardly, and...deathly; civilians, slaves, and criminals all compete against each other in battle in hopes for fame or freedom. Thousands of people enter, but only one comes out on top, taking the prize of 5 million units, and the release of their shackles. Competitors train for years, some with mentors, some with sponsors, but most only as they can. Many die, others return their cells or masters, but not all hope is lost. For those who do not win, but do particularly well, gaining the attention of spectators and becoming crowd favorites, oftentimes they are hired out as mercenaries or placed in personal militias, and the top ten are transferred to the Galactic Federation's army to be trained.
Gambling on the games runs amok in the galaxy, but none more so than amidst nobles. It is they who sponsor the strongest, most formidable competitors, and they who have the most to lose. A civilian can become a noble or a noble a slave, just overnight thanks to the competition. The surefire way to win in the games is to find a noble to sponsor you, give you the best training, the best things for you to come out on top. It is a risky wager, as oftentimes the person's life and their family's lives is promised to the sponsor should the competitor lose, but a risk worth taking. Winners are regarded as the top of society, a step below kings and queens. They are known on every planet, and receive whatever they should wish for, but...they are also rarely seen. No one knows where they go, or what important job they are performing, but surely it is as great and awesome as they are.
As for the types of competitors, there are three general classifications: civilian, slave, and criminal. Civilians might as well be slaves, the only difference being that they earn money for their work. They are all tied to a landowner who oversees and dictates them, pays them as they provide labor and taxes for him or her. Civilians answer to the landowner, who answers to nobles, who answers to the royals. Everyone is owned by someone, but as you climb the ladder, the sense of freedom grows. Civilians seek to rise up that ladder, to better their situation. Slaves are truly owned by landowners, they are not paid, only made to work and do as their told. The games are a chance to free themselves of their bonds, either through death or success. It is not wise to underestimate a slave in the games, as their stamina and durability is higher than most. Lastly there are the criminals. People imprisoned from things as small as thievery to as large as mass murder and destruction. These are the people that nobles seek out first as competitors to sponsor, as they are the strongest, but at the same time most unreliable. There is also a cap of 200 competitors who can be criminals, and the lists have been filled for years. Most new criminals give up on ever competing, as there is never an open spot.
Now that we are just a month out, the competitors have begun arriving, to continue their training and preparations here on the planet Bazar where the games will be held. Here they will be able to meet and train amongst their future competitors, sizing up the competition! They will now also be closely monitored and observed, as well as being subjected to live coverage up to and throughout the games!
You are welcome to play anyone, nobles, people not participating in the games, but it is required you have at least one competitor. Criminal competitors must be asked for in advance, and there is a max of 3. Please don't hesitate to ask question. There is no magic in this thread.
