The velkar's lack of unity was evident to the world, though Dewhart managed to find himself serving under the closest thing to a protective force for the Velkar there was in his younger years. He served for approximately 200 years before the war happened, working his way up the ranks into the head stealth operative for discretionary and pitch-black operations. He earned the title "Blackpath" for his unique method of isolating targets, a wall of shadows on both sides of the target creating a pitch-black corridor with only he and his target in it. Being a shadow velkar, he could see his target with ease. His targets were never so lucky. When the war happened, however, the chain of command quickly shattered. He had no orders except to standby for further instruction, which he soon grew skeptical of. Even as he tried to operate on his own, it was to little avail. He couldn't save his people, he stood on the sidelines for most of the war. Matthew was crushed, thinking only about how he could have done so much more. He went into hiding with the rest of his squad, but after almost 200 years of hiding and learning, they emerged. In the recent year, a group known as "The Black Path" have been attacking high population areas and celebrations to "thin the masses of traitorous scum" as they put it in their darkweb broadcasts. They are known to be incredibly dangerous velkar, though little outside of that is known. Fire, shadow, lightning, earth, and ice powers have all been on display in their attacks, leaving many dead each time. Anti-velkar politicians often end up dead in their homes, high income neighborhoods often find themselves the victims of abrupt fires, and celebrity pool parties have even ended with several guests frozen inside of the pools. There is clearly a message to their deeds, and that message is that the humans won't be on top for much longer. Extra: Blackpath uses a throwing spear and knives for combat, though he also makes use of various poisons, assassination implements, and occasionally elemental weapons the Black Path have looted off of their enemies. |
