Appearance: The 11 year old caucasian boy stands at 4'6 with a thin build. His brown hair is kept short, only slightly going over his forehead, but is otherwise left to its own devices after being combed down. His eyes are brown and are constantly resting along with his mouth in a frown. He wears dark colored hoodies and jeans, and his hands are often kept in the front pockets of his hoodie. His shoes look more sporty, though don't seem to see much use.
Bio: Welsh was your average kid as he eagerly awaited his 10th birthday, the day kids were finally allowed to own pokemon of their own. After seeing many of his friends catch their first pokemon, he was on the brink of bursting when his parents bought him a pokeball and let him leave Hammerlocke to find a pokemon, so long as he stayed near his friends that already had one. As his friends ended up wandering off with intent to expand their collections, Welch spotted his soon-to-be partner. A Duskull, just wandering about aimlessly, seemed like the perfect choice. He got its attention, lining up the shot he had practiced so many times before, and threw the pokeball at the approaching ghost type. As it was sucked into the ball, he eagerly rushed over to claim his prize when it broke free. The Duskull was known for its dogged pursuits of its targets, and the surprised Welch wasn't studied up enough to be prepared for the chase that ensued. It wasn't particularly fast, but neither was he. Nothing seemed to stop it, and he couldn't find any of his friends as he had to run deeper and deeper into the forest. He ended up in the colder regions in his escape, the chilly air tiring him faster than he already was. Stopping by a tree for a breath, he found himself at a dead end as he prepared to run again. If not for the flash of a claw that repelled the ghost, he was sure it would've caught him. Unable to return home as the ghost continued to circle the tree and try to catch him, a territorial Sneasel that lived by that same tree fended it off for hours. Enduring the freezing night and occasional reattempted assault by a Duskull carrying renewed vigor, the two managed to wait it out until sunrise when the ghost was forced to retreat. Seeing the sun rise, the Sneasel knew it was safe to rest, but the boy by its tree didn't look like he'd make it much longer. If not for the exhausted Sneasel escorting him back toward town until local rangers managed to locate him, Welsh and the pokemon both knew he wouldn't have survived.

Though he held a deep fear and hatred of ghost types from then on, his love for the spectacle of pokemon battles barely faltered. With the aid of a ranger he set out again one day, heading back to that same tree to find the Sneasel that helped him some weeks ago. The Sneasel seemed exhausted and beaten as it was found, and the ranger in question found that it must've been forced to deal with the attacks of that same duskull every night since it kept returning to the tree for revenge. Welch worried it would hold contempt toward him for causing him so much trouble, but the ranger confirmed it held no such feelings toward him. In fact, at his offer to have it come back to town with him, it gladly accepted. It was not until some time later that Welch and the Sneasel agreed to put it inside a pokeball, and that he found it to be a female. Going through a list of names, the two decided that Blitz was the perfect name for it. It took great pride in its speed, though both were perfectly fine not battling other trainers very much. It was very evident from later incidents Welsh froze up when faced with a ghost type, and thus never watched anything involving Allistar. Blitz came to be very protective of him, having less of a fear of ghost types and more of a distaste for them. The two are the best of friends, and often watch gym battles together.
Extra: Welch rarely leaves Hammerlocke anymore, and absolutely never leaves if there's a chance of being out at night.

Sophie was in Hammerlocke, debriefing with the other rangers. She'd been positioned in the Wild Area, particularly in Wild Area near Motorstoke, where new trainers would be training for the first three gyms. She'd heard that this was an easier section of the Wild Area, which she was grateful for, for Stufful's sake. She was just happy to still be able to do some of what she loved. She glanced at the silent TV in the corner, showing the start of the gym challenge, and smiled.

Bri glanced around the crowd of wannabe champions, almost bored. She knew many of them wouldn't make it past the first two gyms, so it wasn't worth her time to care right now. She'd get herself a well balanced team, and prepare for anything. She was particularly excited to camp with her team, and make some curry.

Bri glanced over at the boy who approached her and scoffed. "Who's asking?"
