Name: Molly Rinaldi
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Race: Elf
Appearance:
Snarky high elfMagic/Abilities/Skills: Ecomancy, Shape shifting, a myriad of basic high class magics
Job: Fashion designer
Bio: Daughter of Lord Orion Rindaldi of Portunis, the headmaster of the Magic Academy for Lords and Ladies, Molly grew up well off and well nurtured. Heavy expectations sat upon her shoulders with such prolific parents, but she met each in stride, surpassing them with ease. She was ever the leader her father was, always the head of the class both in terms of magical prowess and leadership. During this time, she began to develop a strong sense of fashion, pioneering many a magic based fashion craze amongst the high class. Lightning studded shocker belts, temperature based color-changing one pieces, exotic shape shifting forms, things that swept high society and filtered down into the masses were pioneered by her. By the time she graduated her mandatory studies, Molly Rinaldi was a household name for her own societal contributions separate from her father.
She graduated her studies with high honors, already displaying near mastery of ecomancy and shapeshifting due to her fashion efforts, which was quickly completed within her first year at the Academy. She chose to spend her next years studying different magics to use in fashion design, but it was during her studies that a middle class university student began to war against Molly’s fashion efforts. It seemed her efforts no longer had an effect on the masses, and even in high society she found the low class magic eeking in. She’s declared a personal war on this low class fashion, determined to combat it with her own.

Name: Willow Talen
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: Fairy
Appearance:
Magic/Abilities/Skills: Healing magic
Job: Student, Equality Protestor
Bio: Willow didn’t have an easy childhood, but she didn’t have it as difficult one as some. Her mother was a cop, and one who cared for her immensely, even if the rules at home were strict at times. No experimenting, no magic after bedtime, absolutely no illegal magic. The thing about Willow was, is she was tricky at heart, and found loopholes in most everything. With a mother who can influence the truth out of anyone, she found ways to get around anything, even her mother. Rules angered her, especially stupid ones, and from a young age she despised that some magic was off limits simply due to someone’s income or societal standing. Certain magics, beautiful at their core, were considered dirty or lowly, whereas others were celebrated on pillars.
Her activism started in middle school with several heated essays, that turned into an equalist club. The club traveled with her into her high school, where she organized full-fledged protests in the city, gathering hundreds every time. She even skipped her graduation for her largest protest yet, planned and organized over the course of her final year, that ended up an incredible success. Numbering in the tens of thousands, the middle and low class of Ascension marched through the streets, demanding fairer standing and access to “higher magics” at the University. It had at the very least introduced a bill for income adjustment and a consideration for a small list of magics to be included at the University, but the bill had been stalemated amongst the council for over two years now.
Willow’s protests mainly center around pushing that bill forward, but she has taken some time to study healing magic at the University as well. She holds smaller scale protests at the university, and came to be known for how vocal she was in any class she was in, but she was far from apologetic over it, even if it did get her kicked from class now and again. Her activity on campus was also how she met Makoto, and through her, Raul. Makoto, known for her ground breaking and accessible fashion, was incredible, and doing just as much work from a less active standpoint, and Willow was enamored with it. Raul…he had interesting viewpoints, and she enjoyed their constant debates, but at times he helped her see things from a wider viewpoint, and she helped him realize when theories went too far. She was glad to have made such good friends, as her intensity left her rather lonesome during mandatory schooling.
Extra: Her and her mother don’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of the reasons she’s protesting, but her mother respects her drive to get things done and is often seen protecting the line of her daughter’s protests.

Name: Aspen Talen
Gender: Female
Age: 35
Race: Fairy
Appearance:
mom fairyMagic/Abilities/Skills: Truth influence, siren song
Job: Detective/Cop
Bio: Aspen was a bright fairy, capable from a young age, but she lacked the maturity to step into her talents when she was younger. At the age of 15, she became pregnant, but she never came to regret this. Willow was a blessing in disguise, and woke Aspen up to reality and what she needed to do. Pregnant, and even after having a baby, Aspen stayed in school and graduated with high honors. She wanted to go through the police academy, but with a three year old, it proved impossible. For the next three years, Aspen worked jobs here and there where she could, saving up as much money as she could as she continued to live with her mother and sisters in a communal neighborhood. They had their own house, but Willow was often passed from one sister to the next as Aspen worked, until Willow was old enough to go to school. Once she was at school for the majority of the day, then, Aspen was able to go into the police work she desired.
It was hard work, but rewarding. After a few years working as a police officer, Aspen’s aptitude for drawing in criminals with her siren song and ability to pull confessions out of the toughest of cases was recognized and she was promoted to detective. She’s been working as a detective for ten years now, and loves every second of it, even if she can be a bit cold at times.
Extra: She is immensely proud of Willow, even if she doesn’t quite understand her anger.

The Magdef Coalition
Marsha and Howard de Vein are the leaders of the Magdef Coalition, an underground society of magically deficient individuals. Those without magic are considered the lowest of lows in society, and so a good many in Ascension decided to quite literally disappear. Untraceable due to not having a magical output, they slipped under the radar and developed their own community beneath Ascension, just trying to survive. Marsha, a human magdef, helped the magdefs escape public eye about fifteen years ago with the aid of her husband Howard, an elf and former enhancement professor at the University. If not for Howard and the donation of fairly archaic technologies from an unknown higher up he knew, the Coalition would not have been able to last.

Name: Yves de Vein
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Race: Half-elf
Appearance:
do you ever change a man's whole race for a pictureMagic/Abilities/Skills: No magic, martial training, weapon use
Job: Underground Magdef Freedom Fighter
Bio: Yves is the only child of Marsha and Howard de Vein, and when he was six years old, his small family fled into the underground with a group of magdefs to escape the society of mages. From a young age, Yves grew to hate mages for lording over them, and his father as well, for being a mage. As he grew older, and the issues became more complex, he became upset with his mother for loving his father, for choosing a magi as her partner. Despite her wisdoms that “You can’t choose who you love,” Yves still hated it, and he hated his father. Howard was not a bad man, but simply for having magic, Yves couldn’t stand him.
As the years went on and the Coalition grew little by little, Yves befriended Utopia May and Rungle the Goblin, and together they became what the coalition dubbed as the Bandit Heroes. They learned how to sneak through the tunnels and navigate the underground of Ascension together, committing petty crime and getting away with it due to their lack of magic. Eventually, and as his father grew older, Yves took over working with the higher up who gave them supplies, though he was loathe to do. It wasn’t a donation, as the others were lead to believe, but doing the big wig’s dirty work in exchange for supplies. He hated it, but it had to be done. They did not yet have the magicless technologies to be fully independent. He was thankful, though, that he had his friends to rely on and help with the work.

Name: Utopia May
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Race: Elf
Appearance:
cutie
Magic/Abilities/Skills: No magic, charismatic, smart as a whip
Job: Underground Magdef Freedom Fighter
Bio: While magdefs in general are shunned and rejected by society, in elven communities, to be without magic is abhorrent. Utopia’s father was the first in a long, long time to be born without magic, but her mother, born not but three years later, was the second. Gravely, they waited hopefully that magic would come with maturity, but Utopia’s parents remained magically barren. As they reached the ages of 18 and 15, they were cast out and shunned, no longer welcome and ignored by elves, but at the very least they had each other. They wandered Brumel for 30 odd years, and over time fell in love. Before long they realized they were with child, and attempted to make a home deep within the woods, naming her Utopia in hopes for a better future for all with her. For another five years, they lived off nature as they raised Utopia alone, yet another magdef elf, but when word got around to the elves of their location, and that they’d had a child, a team of hunters were sent out to eliminate them, lest even more magdef elves be born.
Her parents fled just in time, receiving a mysterious warning in the night, and arrived at Ascension. They lived on the streets, trying to scrape a living, but with a six year old, life was difficult. That was, until a young human woman and her son approached them, offering them a safe haven for magdefs, while Yves and Utopia played in the rain. With nothing to lose, her parents went with Marsha de Vein, though after only a few months they both contracted a deadly illness and died. Utopia was left to be raised by the community, but as a community they raised her well.
Utopia and Yves remained close through the years, and she weathered his anger as it came. With Rungle, the three were able to care for themselves and combat whatever came their way. She loves her boys dearly, and would fight to the death for them.
Extra: She honors her parents by wearing ancient elf markings on her face
