Utter silence filled the Heroes Guild Hall upon Fark's return to it. Gently he walked as he finally saw him, his son, the leader, finally about to sit in his position of leader. Lewis asked "Father, what's wrong?"
The founder growled and said "Lewis, what were you doing?"
"Dealing with a pack of werewolves near Skywood. It wasn't an easy fight, father. They were prepared for us, and their leader was quite powerful." Lewis admitted sheepishly. "Didn't help they were expecting us, we had to do a tactical retreat only able to prevent more casualties but not slay the murderous beasts. That was until thankfully, we got some back up from the Skywood Heroes Guild,
Anzaro,
Vultog, and
Selen really saved our necks."
"Did we lose anybody?" Fark pressed in concern.
Lewis stated "No, and no one is now a werewolf." he paused a bit and said "Well no one but
Selen but she is one already, so..."
"Good, Good" Lewis noticed his father's relief as Lewis went to apologize for being caught off guard but was surprised when Fark cut him off. "I need every single hero in the Heroes Guild for an emergency Rank S meeting. I mean everyone, from the novices to the elites. Please son, this is important."
Lewis said "Yeah, sure dad, no problem. What's the emergency."
"He's coming" was all Fark needed to say.
Meanwhile in land covered in shadow and mist, Carmilla's eyes glowed as she paused seeing two approaching shadows. A small bit of delight and disgust filled her as she couldn't help but reconize them immidately. She dropped down and looked at Baser and Zeretus as they slowly approached out of the mist. "Kind of an obvious location. Isn't it?" she commented but couldn't help but contain some joy in seeing the old Lich.
Baser said "Yes but that's why it's perfect. The only person of note who would be a threat to this location is Fark. However, he probably would figure we wouldn't be stupid enough to come here." Zeretus nodded as Carmilla gave only a little smile.
Carmilla said "So are we it?" she sighed "That's a shame, I really thought Arriz was made of tougher stuff than to die."
"He lives." the trio turned hearing a woman's voice but not the one they are used to hearing. "However, he is content where he is now. Under the false name of Aimes Justin, he values his life and his new bride to be. Sadly we have lost him, but he will not join the Heroes Guild. So he is not a traitor...just a deserter. Right now we can afford losing one, I think."
Zeretus gripped his blade as Baser put his hand upon the shadowy warrior "May I ask who you are?"
"Names will be revealed, right now I am to take you to Ayda Malum. Please, come this way." motioning as the group followed quietly, Carmilla keeping her eye on this strange girl who just appeared in front of her. Who was she? What did she want? Why is she here? She knew all would be awnser but why the cloak and dagger among Ashton's loyal followers? However, another question lingered, did Arriz seriously give up everything for a simple life?
The young woman walked into an old looking ruined fortress, as Carmilla sighed "I never really wanted to see this place again after we conquered Radiance."
Zeretus stated "Don't complain, it is what it is"
As the group kept going they were lead to a...kind of persevered bedroom. It was odd, as the harsh landscape outside would prevent such a thing. However, this was intact, untouched, as the young woman opened the door, Baser entered first and what he saw almost made his Phylactery fall out of his eye socket. There sat Ayda, but not the young woman he was expecting due to Ashton's blessing upon his children.
Sadness overwhelmed Carmilla too, Ayda was one of the few people she could talk about her issues and not feel like she was troubling her but she looked like she was on her last legs. Ayda looked at the group and smiled "Hello friends, I wish Arriz could be here to see me too. As you can tell, I'm not long for this world."
Carmilla asked, holding back a few tears from her clearly on her last legs friend "How did this happen? Ashton's spell, it made you guy ageless. How are ..."
"Oh my dear Carmilla, it's okay to shed tears upon seeing the last of me" Ayda stated "I share my father's weakness for love. I wonder if he'd be proud of me."
The lich solumly asked "That doesn't explain why you are in this state"
Ayda sighed forcing herself to sit up as the woman tried to move "It's okay Ashley, I'm not long for this world and they have the right to know. I have been working tirelessly to remake my father's staff and contact all of you. That amount of Evil energy, plus the mana used for it took it's toll on my body. I have no regrets of doing this. I will cling on though...I must see my father and tell him I love him." She motioned to Ashley "And that his bloodline...is secure."
Zeretus paused "That is your child?"
"Yes, she is." Ayda stated looking at her. "Her father...her father took me in one day when I was weak. He was a good man and he loved us both...or so I thought. When he found out my past he tried to go to the Heroes Guild as soon as possible. Instead of living Arriz's life, I had to" she had to take a break to cough up a lot. "I had to kill the one I loved to protect my daughter."
Ashley said "It hurts a little but now I understand. With all my lessons of Evil's Might, I understand that my father had to die. It was to fufill the words of Malice and it was the first step to opening up my eyes" She looked at her mother and held her hand.
Carmilla revealed the Orb of Malice "So I recovered this as you asked"
"And I rescued bone bags" Zeretus snidely commented not feeling a bit of pity towards the situation.
Ashley said "Good, we can begin then?" looking at her mother who shook her head.
"We are missing something," Ayda admitted to them. "Something we're going to have to take by force now. We need the blood of the unholy and damned. We need demonic blood, just a drop. Then we can begin. However, Arriz is not here."
Zeretus was quiet and said "Then I'll grab him, kicking and screaming if I have to."
Ayda stated "We need subtlety in this one. Carmilla, please...bring Arriz here. We need his blood...afterwards...we can .let him go."
Carmilla was quiet but looked at her old friend and sighed saying "As you command, Princess Ayda." turning away and leaving the door she whispered to herself "I'm sorry Arriz, but I need Ashton, we were so close to being ready to strike my kingdom before he fell. " Her eyes narrowed "So no matter what, I need the Emperor of Evil to rise again."
