16 years ago, the world erupted in flame in shadow. It began with a large object began to grow in the sky. An asteroid, thought to be well away from the earth, had collided with another object, and it’s course changed for earth. Too late, and not enough fire power to destroy it, we watched as it grew ever closer. We learned of it a few months in advance, and the panic that ensued nearly destroyed the earth before it hit. It crashed into the ocean, and it became clear that no amount of preparing, hiding, or training prepared us for the impacts they told us to expect.
It delved deep into the Pacific Ocean and the water cleaved like the Red Sea. The water rose high into the air, turning to vapor, and spreading throughout the earth, as the asteroid hit and ground rocked beneath our feet. Cities toppled and the flames spread across the world, too strong even to the endless rain that began. Tsunamis slammed into the coasts for weeks, eroding it slowly, and we were thrown into a freezing impact winter as clouds covered the sky, so thick no sunlight touched the earth for a year. 90% of our food sources perished, and with it, 82% of humans did too. As the light gradually returned, so did heat, until it was an unbearable temperature thanks to trapped gasses from the impact. It rained, constantly, trapping those gasses until acid poured from the skies. The world became a wasteland, only the animals and plants we managed to protect surviving. We retreated deep underground to escape the rampaging death. For ten years we hid, trying to survive on what we had. Outbreaks of disease, shortages of food, and internal fights killed even more of us, until there was barely a population to our name. But eventually the rain poured clean, albeit incessant, and the world cooled again. We stepped out into a desolate world, but with a determination to live.
Today, 16 years after the Impact, they're are towns and growing cities dotted across the expanse of livable land in America. Most of it was reduced to dirt, but grass is taking hold again, and some trees remain. Scientists are studying what they can, and farmers are trying to plant crops to little success. Still, starvation plagues our people, and food remains low. We have meager greenhouses, and interior farms keep livestock alive, but they too are malnourished and few in numbers. So, as rations run dry, a team of scavengers and hunters formed, daring to step outside city walls and explore our unknown world for a chance at life. The only problem is...there's a lot more than we ever could have guessed.
Mutated animals, enormous, deadly, prowl desert lands for meals of their own. Clouds of toxic air roll across the plains that dissolve the skin and melt your lungs upon touch. Humans left above ground have become consumed with their hunger, mutated and mad with desire for sustenance. They kill anything they detect and have no hope for salvation but in death. But still, the Scavengers venture out, more often unlucky than successful. Because of their difference, their low success rate, they become pariahs in societies, necessary but useless in the people's eyes. The human race's will to live is dwindling with their food supply, and unless the Scavengers find a solution, humans may very well kill each other before starvation does.
-------
You are a scavenger, a young, able bodied individual with a penchant for survival. You train with other scavengers and study notes left behind by those before you. There have only been scavengers for 4 years, but that was more than enough time to collect information on what was waiting out there beyond the safe walls of your town or city. Because it is necessary for you to be in relatively good health, Scavengers get 1 extra ration, much to the dismay of everyone else. Because of this, many people rush to become Scavengers, but many people die. Being a Scavenger is not an easy task, death rates are high, success rates are low, and you become an outcast the moment you put your sash on. But here you are.
You get two knives, two guns, one rifle, one pistol, but the guns should be a last resort unless you have found something you can actually hunt. You'll be given plenty of bullets, but be mindful of what you carry. Rogues will not hesitate to rob you of your things, and you do not want to be stranded outside the walls with nothing but your clothes, because anything besides what you get now, you pay for. You also get 100 water purifying pellets, drop these in a canteen and wait 10 minutes, you'll have fresh water. Non-perishables to take outside the wall will also be given but you must ration them, because if you run out all you'll have to eat is what you find. You will be put into teams, traveling alone is suicide. These teams are subject to change at your leaders discretion. If a team returns with a lead for a big haul, we'll go out as a troop. Now, off with you, you'll get your first assignments tomorrow.

Outside the wall:
Animals - • Deer - Carnivores, razor sharp teeth and massive antlers sharpened to points. Incredibly sensitive hearing, will charge and attack. Few and far in between, If you find one, stalk it til you find its family too. • Bear - Massive, 17 feet tall, has developed armor like skin hard to pierce, still furry though. Both meat and fur/skin is valuable, but difficult to kill. Must be stabbed in the underside of the neck, moves too quickly to be shot. Difficult to kill. • Birds - the size of ostriches now, vicious and hunting to kill. If you see the shadow of a bird, hide and aim. If they see you, run. Only surprise can fell a bird. • Lizards/Snakes - Capable of swallowing a human whole. Impossible to pierce skin. Dinosaurs. Avoid. • Insects - One word. Run.
Humans - • Roaches - Basic class. Their skin is burned and bubbled from the radiation, often times mutilated in some way. Incredibly fast and a boosted endurance, often have hackney knives. Kill on sight. • Clickers - Blind and poisonous. They have impeccable hearing, and run just as fast as roaches. Make a noise and they attack. If they touch you, you're dead. Poison covers their skin, causing insanity and the destruction of nerves. • Bombs - Inflated, and disastrous. These are people who fed on whatever they could get their hands on, radioactive, poisoned, or not. It bloated their bodies and caused them to become quite explosive. Shoot from afar, when hit the bubbles on their skin erupt and shoot outwards, spreading poison as well.
