Name: McKayla “Mickey” Faith Collins
Age: 37
Appearance:
pt. 1 pt. 2 Job: Stay at home Mom, Blogger, Photographer
Bio: After the war, Mickey needed to get away. As much as she loved her friends, she wanted to live a life where she wasn’t reminded daily of everything that occurred. So, her and Mac packed up and moved to Western Utah, tucked up in a mountain town. One small wedding, a few years together and getting settled in their cabin, Mickey and Mac decided to adopt a child. Since Mickey was unable to have children, but still desperately wanted a kid after seeing all her friends with children, they decided that they’d give having a kid a shot. They ended up adopting four year old Travis, who lost his parents in the aftermath of the war, and after a year learning how to parent, Mickey and Mac were faced with the daunting start of school as he turned five. After some debate and the risk of their degree of famous ness affecting Travis, Mickey decided to become a full time stay at home mom and homeschool Travis.
A few years after settling into their family dynamic, Mickey and Mac were alerted to a young girl who’s parents had perished in an avalanche locally, and had no living relatives, so would they be interested in adopting again? Deciding between each other and asking now 7-year-old Travis how he felt about having a little sister, Mickey and Mac agreed to adopt young Allison and grow their family by one more.
Mickey loved being a mom; out of every job she’d ever had, she loved being a wife first, and a mom second. Having a family was everything she ever wanted, and she poured her heart into making her family everything hers hadn’t been. This translated into Mickey sometimes being too forgiving, or hovering over her children, but nobody was a perfect parent.
When Travis was 10 and Allie 8, Mickey and Mac sat them down to tell them the reality of war and what roles they played in it. Living in a small town largely unaffected by what had happened, it wasn’t quite apparent, but whenever they went to visit Grandpa Collins and the Uncles in Pisgah, they’d begun to notice the stares and turned heads. While they explained what exactly happened, it was apparent that the truth didn’t hold much weight to their kids, how could it? Their mom was just a goofy hippy photographer who gushed over her kids and her plants, while their dad was just a police officer passionate (paranoid) about being safe.
Now seventeen years later, Travis is 14 and Allison is 12, and the entire Collins family has moved back to Pisgah. Mac’s father’s health had begun deteriorating in his old age and the family had decided to move back to NC in order to be with him and give the kids a chance to be around their “cousins” more. After some debate, Mickey and Mac decided to enroll the kids in public school so Mickey could focus on Mac’s father and keeping the house in order, and tomorrow is the kids’ first day of public school ever. Needless to say, Mickey is nervous.

Name: Garret Tomlinson
Age: 38
Appearance: Not as fit as he used to be, slight dad bod, but every lady is still in love with him
Job: Highschool Football Coach/History Teacher
Bio: Garret had three good years. He got to raise his daughter with the love of his life, got married, saw his most of his friends married, and even enjoyed the excitement of finding out Raven was pregnant on purpose this time. But when he found out, worry also began to tug at him, urging him to remember what happened last time. The pregnancy fooled him into ignoring the warnings; it was perfect. No issues, Raven was positively glowing, nothing went wrong, until Raven went into labor a week early. An emergency surgery was ordered and Garret waited anxiously in the waiting room with Kara and his family, but his wife never woke up again.
Raven died on the table, as Lily tore her way out of her mother’s stomach and into the terrified arms of the nurse. Garrett was devastated, but he had no time to mourn. Mickey stayed with him for two weeks to help with the girls, but she had a home and a life and a husband to return to, and she could only do so much. Lost, and with two young girls in need of raising, Garret went to Scott for help. He didn’t know what else to do. With Scott’s help, he was able to manage being a single father just fine and grew used to what was needed, and once the girls started school, managing everything became a little bit easier.
There’s nothing Garret wouldn’t do for his girls, despite Kara claiming she hates his guts and Lily busying herself with so many afterschool activities he only sees her long enough for her to shove dinner in her mouth and go to bed. But Garret is at every band performance, on the sideline of every halftime show, at every play and musical, without fail. He tries to connect with Kara, but since middle school it’s been difficult, and she’s been very anti-parent. Still, he tries to understand and get with it, but really he ends up embarrassing himself. It was hard to keep up with new terminology, but he also never really knew much about the outcasts and the goth crew at school.
Nowadays, he teaches history at the local high school and coaches football. He misses Raven every moment of every day, but he knows she’s not fully gone. He sees her in Lily’s smile, the rolled eyes he often gets from Kara, in everything the girls do. This use to be painful to observe, but now it warms his heart. The sting of grief has faded to a dull ache at last.

Name: Kara Tomlinson
Age: 18
Grade: Senior
Appearance:
linkBio: Kara, for all the world, wishes she could remember what her mother looked like, or what her voice sounded like, and the feel of a hug, but she was simply too young to really recall what having a mother was like. Her father did what he could, but Kara was bitter that she had no mother and the whole world was to blame for it. Her Aunts and Uncles were to blame, her cousins were to blame, but most of all her little sister was to blame.
In middle school, Kara discovered her style, a way to represent how she felt outwardly, and delved deep into goth culture and there she has stayed. Now 18, Kara is maddeningly close to breaking free from Pisgah and everything in it. The day she graduates, she plans to leave, and never look back. She has one more year, and then she’s free.

Name: Lily Tomlinson
Age: 15
Grade: Sophomore
Appearance:
pt. 1 pt. 2 Bio: Lily has always been a bubbly, outgoing child. She, unlike her sister, found her outlet for her emotions in a healthier way: art. Band, theater, chorus, slinging paint haphazardly against a canvas, she did everything she could fit in her schedule in order to get away from her dad’s sad eyes. She knows he doesn’t realize it, but whenever he thinks she isn’t looking, his smile fades and his eyes go dark. When he looks at her, or her sister, it fades, but anytime he’s alone or thinks he is, she sees it. She knows that her father loves her, and would do anything for her, but anytime she spots the sadness that hangs over him like a cloud, she feels a guilty target on her back, nailed into place by Kara’s vocal hatred of Lily.
Lily used to find the fact that her sister hated her guts incredibly disheartening, but she’s since found love for herself and has come to appreciate how much her father loves and cares for her, despite how little time she actually spends with him and the sadness that scares her away. She’s incredibly popular at school, but avoids the topic of her parents or demons or the war at any cost. Unlike her sister and others, she wanted to get away from the past, and look to the future. When it does come up in conversation though, Lily gets clammy, and flowers start to grow on her and around her as her nerves take hold.
Lily is excited for the start of the new year, and all the activities it will bring. She’s also excited Travis is coming to school with her and the other cousins now, especially because he’s completely normal.
Powers: Plants
Embarrassed About: She grows flowers when she’s nervous

Name: Allison Collins
Age: 12
Grade: Seventh Grade
Appearance:
vidya gamBio: Allison is human, but wishes she wasn’t. Her mother, father, aunts, uncles, and cousins are all only part human, and they have powers! Just like the characters in her comics, or in her video games. Since she was very little, before she even knew that real people had super powers, Allison wanted to be a superhero and help people in need. She thought her dad was a superhero, because he was a police office, but when she found out he had powers too, she nearly cried with excitement. Why couldn’t she be his real daughter and get powers like all her cousins?? Her mom tried to explain that Allison
was they’re real daughter, but it was no use. Allison wanted super powers and would do anything to get them.
This delusion lasted until her parents told her the reality of the situation and how sometimes powers were bad, and Allison was crushed. She let go of the dream, and instead turned to her games and her comics, becoming even more obsessed as they became her outlet. Now twelve, Allison is an avid reader, and although she once wanted to becaome a “Superhero” like her father, she’s reluctant to do all the training he has her and Travis do all the time now.
Travis, although only two years older than her, couldn’t be more different than Allison. She loved her older brother, and he was always patient with her and sometimes played video games with her, but she felt the most unrelated to him at times. Their similarities were few and far in between, but seeing her cousins, she found this to be true whether or not siblings were blood related.
Allison is nervous to start public school, afraid she won’t make friends or won’t fit in, but no amount of protesting or bribing could get her parents to agree to her continuing with homeschool. So, tomorrow, she started her first day of seventh grade.
