Vampires walk among us. They attend our schools (at night) and work (the night shift) and integrate well. Though, we’re not necessarily aware of their… vampire-ness. But boy, are they there. And it’s incredible! On top of being a part of human society (well kinda), they have their own society! It’s super intricate and there’s like royalty and specific etiquette and sometimes people seem real uppity, but there’s cool vampires too, they’re really chill. They know how to play the game of society but just hanging out they’ve got all kinds of cool stories and –
Gabby Wallace, what are you doing? Give me that infernal thing, it is daylight outside, you should be resting. You are newly awoken. What even are you doing?
It’s a video log! A vlog if you will! I was just telling everyone about vampires and stuff, Master Hyren.
Everyone?
Well, I mean, the people who follow my vlog. (When I start one I guess)
Well, you are hardly the person to be informing them. Get some rest, young one, I will tell these people about the world of vampires.
The modern world is strange…I have to say. Speaking into a thing and it would transfer what you say to everyone…why in the Roman times you would just stand outside and yell. Or was that the barbarians? Ah I digress. Vampires. We live in covens housed in many places, from dilapidated ghettos to grand castles. It varies. I myself am a coven leader, and we live in a refurbished mansion in the suburbs of NYC. It’s quite nice. Gabby there is recently changed, attacked in the streets by a rogue vampire. Luckily enough I was out for a stroll and was able to welcome her into the coven before she too went rogue. Right. Vampires. I apologize, I get side tracked easily.
There are many rules set in place for how one must behave and where one’s duty lies and so on and so forth. In general, it’s not too bad, and behind closed doors no one is watching. Rules…rules…let’s see…
1. It is true we must be invited into a place before we can enter. Invitation can come in all sorts of forms such as letters (acceptance letters to colleges grant access to everywhere on campus), spoken word (the best kind, any word can be twisted to let you enter), sticky notes, but I like welcome mats. Every human has welcome mats, I can waltz into anywhere I like
2. Hunting humans has now been forbidden. Which is recent, only in the last 200 years or so if I recall correctly. Which is unfortunate, it used to be such great sport. Oh, wait, sometimes we do have friendly competitions where we hunt the streets of a city. It’s great sport. Trains the young ones well. Instead we get our blood from blood donors, or human bonds.
3. Human bonds! Such interesting things, you make a connection with a human and they pledge themselves to you and then, when you bite them to feed they will not begin the change into a vampire and you get voluntarily fresh blood. Simply the best. Unfortunately you cannot share your immortal life with them. It is always painful to see them go… Recently the ethics of having bonds has come under fire from the…newly awoken Vampires, but they know better than to outright contest the Higher Lords.
4. Speaking of the High Lords, they are the most powerful of us all. They make our rules, and run the High Covens. To be a part of a High Coven is prestigious, and only the best and most powerful vampires are welcomed into their ranks.
5. The sun is still off limits, unfortunately. We still live in the night, but no one seems to mind much. The night is invigorating.
6. Though you will not die of sickness, and immortality is possible, you should fear earth. A vampire is born again when they are awoken, a process I will go into another time, but if you are buried back in the earth, you will die the second the dirt falls into place. There are other ways to be killed of course, beheading, burning, and the removal of our hearts, but to be buried…is the worst of all, and the reason why it's out executional process.
7. Manners are key, and if others aren’t respected you are likely to be cast out and forced to join lower covens. If no covens take you in, you will become rogue.
8. A rogue vampire has no coherent thoughts, and only follows his lust for blood. Once a vampire becomes rogue, it is only through an excruciating process that they may possibly be returned to society. More often than not they are simply killed.
At the moment this is all I can remember. Vampire society is complex, and there are many branching hierarchies and types of vampires to say the least. Your coven leader will fill you in on things more complex. I wish you the best of luck, balancing a life between Vampires and Humans can be complex.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, welcome to the land of the immortals, or, uh, Vampires! You are simply…a vampire! You are in a coven and living your life! How old are you? What do you do? Are you recently awoken or really, really old? It’s up to you! To make it easier, here’s the covens YOU can choose from!
Coven of Pittsburg – Master Hyren’s coven, located in a mansion in New York, an hour from the city. They’re pretty chill, law abiding but lenient. Good for beginner vampires or vampires wishing to be free from oppressive upper society
Black Blood Coven – Lower caste coven, but loyal and strong willed. They know they’re looked down upon but are still proud of themselves and each other. They are a somewhat delinquents but willing to take in everyone who needs a home. They encourage their members to behave in hopes of them finding a better life and a better coven. More often than not many choose to stay. They are located in a dilapidated apartment in little Mexico, Manhattan.
Starlight Coven – A coven of noble rank, not quite High Coven, but close enough. Second best if you will. They occupy the top four floors of a high rise apartment in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, often hosting parties. Despite the snobbery of the older leaders of the coven, the younger ones have encouraged an environment of fun and general life enjoyment. They’re not bad people.
High Coven of America – Next to impossible to join, based out of DC, leaders of the East side of the world. (Must PM if interested)
Nightwood Coven – A coven of forest dwellers. They pride themselves in being hunters, living in self-made huts and leading independent lifestyles. Here any human that wanders into their forest is free game and therefore dark stories haunt this forest.
